This course includes a series of theoretical and practical exercises specially designed for dentists and dental faculty students (5th grade) who want to improve their knowledge and clinical skills in the field of endodontics. This training constitutes the 1st module of the endodontic training from A to Z, which consists of 2 modules. Both modules consist of 2 days.
In this module, the biological concepts of endodontics are examined in terms of successful treatments, along with technical tips that improve and facilitate the daily clinical practice.
On the 1st day, the following theoretical topics are shared in detail with sub-titles.
- The necessity of the use of rubber drapes in endodontics and tricks about use
- Endodontic access cavity opening
- Morphological information about root and canal anatomy of teeth
- Solving problems that arise in the use of the apex locator
- Clinical clues for widening and shaping narrow and curved canals
- The importance of irrigation and disinfection in current endodontics
On the first day, ultrasonic tips is used to modify the endodontic cavity and find the canal openings. The teeth are be embedded in the alginate to create a model for apex locator use. After the canal working lengths are calculated, the root canals are expanded and shaped in the same model. At this time, sonic and ultrasonic active irrigation are performed.
On the second day, the basic criteria and methods for filling root canals and the characteristics of the canal sealers that should be used are discussed. Then, by talking about the structural and physical changes in endodontically treated teeth, the concepts and rules to be considered in the restoration of these teeth, including post applications, are examined. Finally, after the factors that lead to the success or failure of the root canal treatment are mentioned in detail, the methods to be used in the renewal of the root canal treatment are shared.
In hands-on part, post application on plastic models specially prepared for this course and resin composite restoration with fiber tape are made. In addition, onlay/overlay resin composite restorations prepared by the participants are cemented into the cavities on the model. Finally, canal filling removal is performed with special “retreatment” files on teeth that have already filled the canals brought by the participants.
