Periodontal diseases represent opportunistic infections associated with the biofilm that forms on the surfaces of the teeth. The characteristics of the bacteria and the susceptibility of the individual to the disease may affect the onset, progression rate and clinical features of the diseases. It shows that treatment involving the application of plaque control procedures and control of biofilm infection results in periodontal health in most cases. Although health cannot always be regained and maintained, stopping the progression of disease following treatment is the goal of modern dental care. Non-surgical treatment includes various methods for the control of infection that causes pathological lesions in periodontal tissues. Root surface flattening combined with effective plaque control performed by the patient suppresses inflammation and enables the treatment to reach its goal.
In this course, various methods used in non-surgical treatment, their benefits, results and clinical efficacy are explained. At the same time, the treatment approach, the instrument selection, the prognosis of the dentition and individual teeth in the patient who applied to the clinic, as well as the re-evaluation of non-surgical treatment will be discussed in detail.
