Preparation and irrigation of root canals are among the most important procedures in endodontic treatment. The introduction of nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary files to endodontics has changed the way root canal preparations are performed and has enabled more complicated root canal systems to be shaped with fewer procedural errors. Over the past two decades, new developments have been made in manufacturing of NiTi files, as well as alloy processing. There have been currently more than 100 NiTi rotary systems currently in the market. All of them claim to provide the clinicians more safer and efficient instruments. In addition to instrumentation and shaping of root canals, irrigation and disinfection play a major role in endodontic success. Even though NaOCl is the one and only working solution during preparation of root canals, new agents and protocols have been advocated for irrigation in recent years to maximize the debridement of root canals.
This presentation will particularly focus on the developments in NiTi instruments and irrigation protocols. In hands-on course, rotary and reciprocation files of Scope Endo systems will be used in preparation of root canals; ultrasonic and subsonic devices will be operated for activation of irrigation solutions; root canal sealer will be placed in root canals with a subsonic device and root canals will be obturated with single tapered cone/cold lateral compaction techniques.
