Course Overview
This 1-day intensive hands-on course is the first level of our soft tissue management training series and focuses specifically on Free Gingival Graft (FGG) procedures. The course covers the anatomy of the soft tissues around teeth and implants, the etiology and classification of gingival recession, assessment of treatment predictability, and the indications for FGG procedures.
The theoretical session will systematically address the key factors affecting surgical planning and treatment outcomes. Preoperative preparation, measures to improve patient comfort during the postoperative period, and the selection and use of surgical instruments, scalpels, and sutures will also be discussed.
In the afternoon, clinical cases will be presented through surgical videos and photographs, with particular emphasis on the different stages of FGG procedures. Following the case presentations, all participants will perform a Free Gingival Graft procedure on a sheep head model under instructor supervision.
The course will conclude with a short assessment, a question-and-answer session, and a certificate ceremony.
Theoretical Training
Soft tissue anatomy around teeth and implants
Differences between alveolar mucosa, attached gingiva, and keratinized gingiva and their clinical significance
Etiological factors associated with gingival recession
Classification of gingival recession
Assessment of gingival recession in terms of treatment predictability
Indications and contraindications for Free Gingival Graft procedures
Clinical factors affecting treatment outcomes
Preoperative patient preparation
Measures for improving patient comfort during the postoperative period
Surgical instruments and scalpel options
Suture materials and suturing techniques
Incision techniques
Clinical evaluation of different FGG cases
Evaluation of surgical procedures through clinical photographs and videos
Hands-on Training
Following the theoretical training and clinical case presentations, participants will perform a Free Gingival Graft procedure on a sheep head model.
The hands-on session will include:
Evaluation and preparation of the surgical site
Application of incision techniques
Establishment of the appropriate surgical approach for a Free Gingival Graft
Graft harvesting and preparation
Adaptation of the graft to the recipient site
Suturing techniques
Clinical evaluation of the surgical steps
All hands-on procedures will be performed under direct instructor supervision, with individual feedback provided throughout the session.
